September 2012 Athlete of the Month
62-year-old Diana Herrera took control of her life less than 2 years ago and has never looked back! She was overweight, lethargic, unhealthy and very sedentary when she started a weight loss program and lost almost 70 pounds. Diana began slowly by line dancing and a little bit of water aerobics. She quickly learned the value of being active… She particpated in her first 5K last September; raising money to help find a cure for Alzheimer’s. She then continued her quest with the Race for the Cure, Denver’s
Turkey Trot, and recently her first (muddy) 5K obstacle course. She now aims to walk at least one 5K every month for different charities. She was recently awarded the Lifestyle Change Award, presented by Peyton Manning during the local American Heart Walk in June. Diana has been married for 42 years, raised 2 boys and has 2 grandchildren. In her spare time she enjoys scrapbooking, biking, rafting, weight lifting and playing the the drums. Her newly found active lifestyle seems to fit her just perfectly!
