March 2014 Athlete of the Month
Jenn Berry started running competitively in high school. After having success at the half marathon distance over the last several years, she was motivated to complete her first marathon and qualify for the Boston Marathon. “I still remember making the decision in the spring of 2012 to register for my first full and trying to qualify for Boston.” She targeted Boston 2014 and was following the marathon closely last year during the bombing.
Her times have consistently fallen with each of her 3 full marathon races resulting in her current PR of 3:11, which came at the Marine Corps Marathon last fall. “I was shooting for 3:15 so I was pretty thrilled to run 3:11…and then all of a sudden breaking 3:00 seems like a real possibility!” She has continued to dedicate herself to her training, which is often challenging in Colorado in the winter and is currently training with Runners Edge of the Rockies. “I haven’t consistently trained with a group since college and it has given me a new level of structure and motivation that has resulted in some fast times.” Last fall, 3 weeks after completing the MCM she ran 1:28 in the Big Sur Half. After that race, Jenn feels like she has a good shot at her 3:00 goals at Boston. “I know the weather can be unpredictable and play a big role in the finish times at Boston but if the day seems right, I am going for it!”
