December 2012 Athlete of the Month
Jimmy Tranter is on Team Thunderstorm; the skydiving team that jumps into the Denver Broncos home games. He was born and raised into a skydiving family in rural Indiana and grew up around the skydiving business his father owned. He started jumping, himself, at the age of 14 when he was big enough to reach the parachute controls. He began competing at age 15, and became a jumpmaster at the age of 16; working with first time students. Jimmy moved to Florida when he was 19 and continued his pursuit of this sport in different ways. He trained as a sky surfer and practiced freeflying and swooping, as well. He began competing in swooping which is flying under your canopy at approximately 80-100 mph towards the ground. Jimmy then moved on to test jumping performance parachutes for big companies. After moving to Colorado, he worked with Mile-Hi Skydiving and joined the Bronco’s Skydiving Team and is currently in his fourth season as one of the four Team A members. Jimmy now has over
20,000 skydives and still takes the time to talk to jumpers of all levels because he loves the sport so much.
