November 2011 Athlete of the Month
38-year-old Ross Osborne is a Marine Veteran who has been wheelchair bound recently and has found great satisfaction in the wheelchair racing world. His first race was the Aurora Trail Days and he gained a sponsorship with the Boulder Running Company through that exposure. Ross is surrounded by a great support system of people who are helping him through this life transition and push him towards his goal of competing in the Boston Marathon. Since he began racing he has placed 1st in his age group and 2nd and 3rd overall in different races. He competes in his first half marathon this month as a big step towards his goal of Boston. Ross says that every day he encounters people who look at him with sympathy. He doesn’t want that; as he believes he has accomplished more in his short time handicapped than he ever did walking. He has more confidence and self respect because he has come to compete at a higher level in so many ways!
