April 2012 Athlete of the Month
35-year-old Sean Wetstine is an accomplished endurance athlete, and mountain ultra-runner. He is a proud member of the 2012 Runners Roost Mountain-Ultra Team. Sean will compete in about 7 ultra-distance races of 30-100 miles in length this year and his key event will be the Leadville Trail 100 Ultra-Marathon this coming August. Sean wasn’t always fit. He used to weigh nearly 200 lbs. standing at 5’8” in 2007. After warnings heard at a yearly physical, Sean made some immediate changes in his life to avoid future health problems. Exercise and healthy eating started off slowly and eventually became a way of life. Sean has lost over 60 lbs. and is now a vegetarian ultra runner. He started off with Ironman Triathlon training and eventually found his passion for Mountain Ultra Running. He runs everyday exclusively on trails; sometimes 2 to 3 times a day. His training weeks consist of mileage averaging 70 to 120 miles per week with 10-20,000 feet of climbing. Sean has done several marathons, triathlons, trail races, and now podiums in his age group at most local running races. Sean loves to motivate, inspire and counsel anyone he meets by trying to help them with healthy diet and exercise choices by sharing his incredible success story.
