Tokyo Joe’s riders have been hitting races all over the state, country and world!
Jill Behlen traveled to Canberra, Australia for the World Championships. She represented the US in the Junior Women’s race for the second time in her career. She finished an impressive 16th and was the top American in the race. Congratulations Jill! A Boulder native, she’s now living in Laramie, Wyoming where she starting her freshman year at the University of Wyoming.
Lydia Tanner, who narrowly missed qualifying for the World’s team, was flying the Tokyo Joe’s kit at the Leverich Crank Up in Bozeman, Montana. She took the victory! The win earned her some precious UCI points, plus some beer and a shirtless podium. She didn’t mention who was shirtless on podium.
Closer to home, the sixth of seven races in the Mountain States Cup took place up at Copper Mountain.
In the Pro Men’s cross-country, Jay Henry took the win with Matt Beaton also finishing on the podium in 4th. They placed the same in the short track too. Two podium finishes in two races, not bad!
Erin Huck and Kay Sherwood mirrored Jay and Matt’s results in the women’s races. With Erin taking the win and Kay finishing 4th in both the cross-country and short-track.
In the Junior Women’s races, Ellie Atkins took the win in the shorttrack with Wesley Geer finishing 2nd. Ellen Patton took the top podium step in the cross-country race with Wesley finishing 2nd again and Ellie taking 3rd.
Ben Malmorg finished on the podium in 3rd in the Junior Men’s cross-country race.
Over the Labor Day weekend the Mountain States Cup took to the Sol Vista course. It was similar to the National Championship course, but with some added fun singletrack. Tokyo Joe’s racers dominated the podiums! Erin Huck took the win again in the Pro Women’s cross-country with Kay Sherwood also finished on the podium in 5th. More podium finishes in the Junior categories with Ellie Atkins and Ellen Patton finishing 1st and 2nd in the Junior Women’s race. Brae Patton and Ben Malmborg also took the podium in the Junior Men’s race taking the 3rd and 4th steps.
Kevin Sheldon has been dominating the off-road triathlon scene! Winning his age-group and finishing 9th overall at the Fort Collins Off-Road Triathlon. Kevin is headed to the X-Terra Nationals later this month in Lake Tahoe and also the World Championship in Maui the end of October.
Tokyo Joe’s also had another racer in the Fort Collins Off-Road Triathlon – Melissa Thomas. MT competed as part of a relay team with two teenage boys, winning the relay division.
With one more Mountain States Cup race to go, we have several racers looking for overall podium finishes. And cyclo-cross is also gearing up! Look for more Tokyo Joe’s racers out and about this fall.
